Boucher State Senate

On April 21, our beloved State Senator of 22 years, Judi Freedman, announced that she would not seek reelection and asked me to run for her Senate seat.

This request was a great honor, and I was profoundly conscious of the great responsibility — to both my current and my potential future constituents — that accepting it would entail. I therefore agreed to accept only if a qualified candidate, whom I could unequivocally and enthusiastically endorse, was prepared to run for my seat in the House. We are fortunate that just such an excellent candidate, Susan Bruschi, has agreed to step forward to run for my current position as State Representative for the 143rd District.

This now allows me to return all previous donations quickly and set up a new campaign. My first step is to qualify for support from Connecticut’s Citizens Election Fund. To qualify, I must receive a minimum of 300 contribution checks for any amount between $5 and $100 ($100 is the absolute maximum contribution per person) from the seven towns of the 26th District. The Citizens Election Fund will then provide my campaign with the rest of the money necessary to run for the Senate seat, and I will not have to ask for any further donations for this campaign.

In order to meet this goal, I am respectfully asking you to contribute any amount between $5 and $100 per person. It is critical to reach the goal of 300 donations before the end of May, as the opponent in this race has been fundraising since November and has already qualified for state financing. We must urgently attain the same level of funding.

Please send a check in as soon as you can to help us mount a successful campaign. All checks MUST be made out to “Boucher State Senate”, Boucher State Senate Certification form MUST also be completed, signed, and sent back with the check – otherwise your donation will not help me qualify. Each donation, including those from joint accounts, must be made with a separate check. Checks from you, your spouse and/or friends should be mailed, each with a signed certification from, to Boucher State Senate, Ellen Essman, CPA, Treasurer, 59 St Johns Road, Wilton, CT 06897. Please note: Donors do not have to live in the 26th district, but the majority of them should reside in the towns of Bethel, New Canaan, Redding, Ridgefield, Weston, Westport, or Wilton.

It has been a very great privilege for me to represent New Canaan, Norwalk, and Wilton in the State House of Representatives. I hope that I will now have the opportunity to use the experience I have gained during my 12 years in Hartford and 10 years in local office to build on Senator Freedman’s solid foundation of trust and dedicated advocacy as Senator for the 26th District.

I am deeply grateful to you for making it possible for me to run for this office. My job as State Representative has always been to be accessible to my constituency, to listen attentively to the people I represent, and then to fight hard as their advocate to win on the issues that concern them most. I hope I will have the honor of representing you, and demonstrating my commitment to your goals, as your State Senator.

Warm regards,

Toni
